Romanians will once again pay out of their own pockets for a DNA abuse. This time for an abuse committed against former Prime Minister Victor Ponta by the prosecutor Jean Uncheselu, meanwhile taken by Laura Kovesi (photo 2) to the European Public Prosecutor's Office.
Victor Ponta sued the Romanian state, DNA and the prosecutor Jean Uncheselu after he was acquitted by the ICCJ in the “Turceni-Rovinari” case, in which he was sent to trial not guilty for alleged forgery of documents under private signature, complicity to tax evasion and money laundering (click here to read the ICCJ's final decision acquitting Ponta). We are talking about a file that was only a piece of a puzzle with which Victor Ponta had to be removed from the office of Prime Minister, so that the System could offer “My Government” to Klaus Iohannis, an operation that he succeeded in, the former Prime Minister resigning shortly after being indicted.
Victor Ponta demanded:
-the obligation of the Romanian state, the National Anticorruption Directorate and the prosecutor Jean Uncheselu to pay 1 million lei in civil damages “for the moral damage consisting in the damage to the right to reputation, honor and dignity caused by the unlawful act consisting in the unjust accusation and unfair trial of me, for alleged acts of corruption that I did not commit.”
-the obligation of the Romanian State, the National Anticorruption Directorate and the prosecutor Jean Uncheselu to pay 500,000 lei in civil damages “for the moral prejudice consisting in the violation of my right to have my criminal case resolved within a reasonable time”.
At the same time, the former Prime Minister asks that the Romanian state, DNA and the prosecutor Jean Uncheselu be obliged to pay the amount of 29,400.74 lei, representing material damages consisting of expenses with lawyer's fees during the criminal trial.
Only the state pays, without DNA and Uncheselu
The sentence was pronounced on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, by the Bucharest Tribunal. Thus, the TMB ordered the Romanian State to pay damages of 100,000 lei to Ponta for failing to resolve the case within a reasonable time.
The Bucharest Tribunal also ordered the Romanian state to pay material damages of 27,706 lei (plus interest) for the lawyers' expenses that Ponta had to pay during the criminal trial in the “Turceni-Rovinari” case.
As far as DNA and the prosecutor Jean Uncheselu are concerned, the Bucharest Tribunal found that they lacked the capacity of passive legal proceedings.
Practically speaking, the damages that Victor Ponta is to receive - damages that are as just as possible - will be paid not by the perpetrators of the abuse, in this case DNA and prosecutor Jean Uncheselu, but from the state budget, i.e. from the Romanian taxpayers' money.
As for a possible future action in regress opened by the Romanian state against Jean Uncheselu, for the recovery of damages paid to Ponta, it is hard to believe that it will have any finality, and it will be blocked by the Prosecutors Section of the CSM on the grounds that Uncheselu did not perform his work in the “Turceni-Rovinari” case with bad faith or gross negligence.
The judgment of the Bucharest Tribunal can be appealed to the Bucharest Court of Appeal.
Victor Ponta recently posted his message towards the romanian people:
Another example of Romanian “pizza” - this time, in Justice!
For me a decision has been given which recognizes my “moral” justice.
But the guilty remain untouchable, protected and even rewarded for the wrong done!
Kövesi, Uncheșelu and Iohannis “ate pizza” with my criminal file invented in 2015 - that's how I was removed from the positions of President of PSD and Prime Minister.
Now, after 10 years of humiliations and struggle, I received, in form, 100,000 lei compensation for the “duration of the trial”.
But who do you think is paying for this “pizza”? Kövesi or Uncheșelu from their salaries of tens of thousands of euros from Brussels?
No, no way - they are well off; it's the Ministry of Finance, i.e. the taxes collected from all of us.
Have you understood what it's like with pizza in Romania?
I received yesterday the decision of the Bucharest Tribunal in the lawsuit I opened in 2024 against DNA and prosecutor Jean Uncheșelu for the fabricated political dossier in 2015, which removed me from the positions of President of PSD and Prime Minister.
What the judge at TMB decided (she didn't even let me speak in the courtroom, although I sat quietly at the last term, hoping she wanted to hear what I had to say ????):
✔ I'm right in principle - but otherwise nothing happens.
✔ I received 100,000 lei compensation for the 8 years the trial lasted (1,000 lei per month - less than the social welfare or tip received by a foreign worker at Glovo ????).
✔ The money comes from the Ministry of Finance (i.e. from our taxes), not from prosecutor Uncheșelu - the one who committed the abuse - nor from Kövesi or DNA - who instigated and sponsored these judicial horrors.
❌ I didn't receive a single penny in moral damages - i.e. everything I endured for 8 years “doesn't matter” (sort of like “your problem”).
The message is clear:
That's it - I've ruined your life and wore you through 8 years in the courts, but it doesn't matter.
You can do nothing to the guilty!
Take 1000 lei a month for the trial and shut up!
Any prosecutor who willfully commits an abuse or fabricates a political dossier is protected for life!
And yet, I'm determined not to let myself get caught!
If I give in, all the others will realize they don't stand a chance!
And all the “uncheșeux” will realize that no matter the abuse, nothing happens to them - so they will do it again!
I will challenge the decision and continue to fight for JUSTICE!
Not just for me, but for all Romanians!
A brief reminder for those who have forgotten:
In 2015, in order to remove me as Prime Minister and give Klaus Iohannis “his government”, DNA invented a 100% political criminal case against me.
The action was directly requested by Laura Codruța Kövesi and implemented by one of the most obedient and incompetent prosecutors under her subordination - the already famous Jean Uncheșelu.
On the basis of that file I was forced to resign as President of PSD (in accordance with the provisions of the PSD statute) and subsequently as Prime Minister.
I was humiliated by all the “militarized” press, by the ‘System’ politicians and presented as “corrupt” in millions of articles in the international media.
I have spent money on lawyers, spent hundreds of hours in court, suffered material and moral damages that I don't wish on anyone!
After 8 years of trials, I was unanimously acquitted by the 3 judges of the Court of Cassation and then by the 5 judges on appeal.
I did not invoke prescription, legislative changes or CCR decisions - quite simply, all the judges decided that I was innocent and that the accusations made by Kövesi and Uncheșelu were mere fabrications.
But their goal had been achieved: to remove me from the leadership.
And Kövesi and Uncheșelu have gone to Brussels, where they receive salaries of tens of thousands of euros as a “reward” and protection for what they have committed in Romania.
In 2023, after the final acquittal, I sued DNA and prosecutor Uncheșelu, claiming moral damages.
My intention was to send a clear signal that such abuses cannot go unpunished!
Yesterday, I received the decision of the Bucharest Tribunal - and I have presented you the solution above!
So... the fight goes on!
