PSD, PNL, UDMR and the group of national minorities signed, on Monday morning, the agreement for the functioning of the coalition, after having reached a consensus on the future Executive and the composition of the government cabinet.
In the Ciolacu 2 Government, Victor Ponta returns to politics and was elected chairman of the Chamber of Deputies' Economic Committee.
Victor Ponta recently returned from the US, where he met with US President Donald Trump in Mar-a-Lago, Florida. During his visit, rumors surfaced in the national press that he might run in the presidential elections. Asked about this, the politician said he has no plans to run.
At the moment, he is the deputy for Dâmbovița, which he is very proud of, and that he does not believe that a meeting with Donald Trump could make him Romania's president. However, he will discuss these issues with Marcel Ciolacu, Romania's Prime Minister, as they can no longer afford to sit back and miss opportunities.
Victor Ponta emphasized how Romanian politicians fail to understand and adapt to the political and economic realities in the United States. He said that in Romania they often discuss international issues in a wrong way, disregarding major changes in global politics.
"If you stay in Romania and you listen, if you listen to some analyst, you can't help but be misinformed. Because you're talking to people who are talking nonsense, who are talking nonsense, instead of trying to get in touch with people who understand that world and ask them to explain, to make you understand,"
Speaking about the direct effects of the new US administration on Europe and arguing that US foreign policy under Donald Trump will have a significant impact on the direction the European continent will take, Victor Ponta highlighted:
"It happens that New America is going to fundamentally influence what happens with Europe, you can already see the effect. I at this moment I would go next to Georgia Meloni and stand glued to her. Orban is there in the picture also"
